TikToker Peller Faces Backlash for Calling Runtown an ‘Up-and-Coming Artist’
Popular TikTok streamer Peller has come under fire on social media after dismissing Nigerian Afrobeats star Runtown as an “up-and-coming artist” during a recent livestream.
While engaging with his audience, Peller’s co-streamer suggested he feature Runtown, but he immediately rejected the idea, insisting he only wanted well-established artists.
“Wetin be Runtown? That one never blow. We no know am. Give me another person. Who is that? Runtown? Don’t bring upcoming artists on my live video. Na artistes wey don blow well well I want,” he ranted.
His comments have since sparked outrage, with many fans slamming him for disrespecting one of Afrobeats’ most influential artists. Critics pointed out that Runtown, known for his unique sound and contributions to the genre, has long cemented his place in the music industry.
Peller, who has previously hosted top artists like Olamide, Tiwa Savage, and Davido on his livestreams, is now facing widespread criticism for downplaying Runtown’s legacy.
Runtown rose to fame with his 2014 hit “Gallardo” featuring Davido and later achieved global success with his 2016 smash “Mad Over You.” Many fans and industry insiders have since reminded Peller of the singer’s achievements, urging him to show more respect to music veterans.
As reactions continue to pour in, Peller has yet to respond to the backlash.
