This release came with so many breakthrough wherein many today’s superstars were lifted so high to a position that constitutes the successful status they are enjoying today.
Wizkid by the middle of 2011 dropped a life changing Superstar Album that redefined the music of Nigeria. Samklef who handled the Superstar Album production was nowhere in the music scene until this Album hit the market and there born SamKlef Nonny. That was quite impressive. At the same time was the likes of Skales, Olamide and so many others who tapped into Wizkid grace to become who they are today.
What am I trying to say here? Starboy wizkid Superstar Album is just what it is. On the album we also witnessed the skillfulness of our top producers who are still trending today. People like E-Kelly, Jay Sleek, Shizzi, DJ Klem, Masterkraft, Q-Beats, Banky W and Vebee among so many others.
This body of work features guest appearances from Wande Coal, D’Prince, Banky W and Skales. The album was supported by six singles: “Holla at Your Boy”, “Tease Me/Bad Guys”, “Don’t Dull”, “Love My Baby”, “Pakurumo”, and “Oluwa Lo Ni”. It is the second best selling album on NotJustOk and was the most highly anticipated Nigerian album of 2011.
There are embodiments of R&B, dancehall, reggae and Afrobeat sound, all in one album dubbed superstar. In “No Lele”, Wizkid talks about his hussle and how he had to work hard to succeed. This is a similar storyline found in recent project titled OjuElegba.
In “Say My Name”, he talks about his success and how everyone now “calls his name”. In “Wad Up”, he is reminiscent about the time he used to get insulted by people who called him dirty. In “Shout Out”, he thanked everyone who helped him become successful. In a nutshell, Wizkid describes his early life, particularly the hardships he endured and how he triumphant and made a name for himself. Wizkid also made reference to God, the almighty, who is constantly helping him reach great heights.
