Months After Dining with APC, Timaya Makes U-Turn – Laments as Fulani Herdsmen Visit His Hometown in Bayelsa, Destroy Farmlands
Popular Nigerian singer Timaya, who openly supported the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) during the last election, is now at the receiving end of what many describe as the failures of the government he once endorsed.
The Dem Mama crooner, who was seen dining with APC bigwigs months ago and even sang “As e dey sweet us, e dey pain them” in support of President Bola Tinubu, has now taken to social media to lament the destruction of farmlands in his hometown, allegedly by Fulani herdsmen.
In a now-viral post, Timaya could not hide his frustration, calling on the government to intervene immediately. He wrote:
“Pls, the government should do something. They are destroying farms in Bayelsa. Aboki, take your cow inside and feed them. This is so sad.”
His sudden U-turn has sparked heated debates, with many Nigerians calling him out for backing a government that has allegedly failed to address the raging farmer-herder crisis.
Social media has erupted with reactions, with some Nigerians mocking the singer for now experiencing firsthand what many have been complaining about.
“When you were singing ‘As e dey sweet us,’ you thought the suffering won’t reach your side?” one Twitter user commented.
Others, however, sympathized with him, urging the government to take decisive action to curb the destruction of farmlands across the country.
The destruction of farmlands by herders has been a major issue in Nigeria, particularly in the South-South and Middle Belt regions. Despite repeated promises by the APC-led government to address the issue, farmers continue to suffer losses, with little to no intervention.
Timaya’s outburst is just the latest in a series of disappointments from former supporters of the ruling party, raising questions about whether more celebrities and influencers will speak out against the administration they once endorsed.
