Here is how Afrobeat is made. Nigerian Music industry is booming and fans across the world are always eager to learn how afro beats is made. This is a genre in music that is dominantly peculiar to Nigeria and Africa and the sound is something that transcends beyond its origin.
I have been making music for the past 15 years and here is the quick tips on how you can make Afrobeats Instrumental.
HOW AFROBEATS IS MADE
(Note: I published this article on Ezinearticle and you can check it on google.)
1. IDEA OR INSPIRATION:
Afrobeats comes easier when you think up something. You have to be inspired before you kickstart your beat making. Most times before I make music I will listen to various music of this kind to draw inspiration from them. Once I feed my memory with so much sounds I will be ready to start making the beats.
2. SONG TITLE:
The second thing you have to do is come up with a title of the full song. Yes I know you are just about to start but the title sometimes conditions more of what the outcome is gonna look like.
3. DRUMS:
Personally I like to start from making some rhythm with drums. Snares and sticks as it is the dominant percussive sound in afrobeats. first start with your kick. Think about how it should go. Do you consider making it a steady kick or something that bounce in and go off? I dont like steady flow of the kick but the choice is yours.
Once you are settled with the way you like your kick to sound then next is to start adding up shakers and hithat. Here you have to listen to what other beats have. How they sequence their own shakers will help you understand what to do and the rhythm you should take.
4. INSTRUMENTS:
After you are done layering the drums and percussion then its time to start adding instruments.
Mainly you have to look out for strings, trumpet and sometimes broken piano sounds. These are the sounds that Afrobeats is made of. Also put clean lead guitar sound. There are guitar riffs which you can download starightout and incorporate with your sound.
5. SONG ARRANGEMENT:
The beat is done and its time to arrange it in pattern. The first 3 bars can do for intro. Chorus is always 3bars then add your verses which is 4 or 5 depending on the strength of who will take up each verse.
6. CONVERT YOUR MUSIC:
After you have finished patterning your music, the next thing to do is to convert it to mp3 file so you can listen to the sound.
This is how I get to hear everything in the beat and decides which and which to remove.
