The Function of calgon in paint production is just to simply disperse particles. Calgon is put just after you have put calcium and Kaolin.
By putting Calgon in paint it will help break every calcium and kaolin making it easy for you to mix it well.
Function of calgon in paint production
CALGON basically slows down sedimentation, stabilizes water hardness and offers a good binding capacity with regard to calcium and heavy metal ions.
Calgon also prevents coagulation and brown shadings of emulsion paints and deflocculates pigments and fillers in aqueous suspensions.

Calgon is used for softening hard water. The addition of calgon to hard water causes the calcium and magnesium ions of hard water to displace sodium ions from the anion of calgon. This results in the removal of calcium and magnesium ions from hard water in the form of a complex with calgon.
